GOV.UK's court finder lists Nottingham County Court and Family Court[5]. You visit it at the County Court at Nottingham, 60 Canal Street, Nottingham NG1 7EJ, but post for the Family Court goes to Nottingham Justice Centre, Carrington Street, Nottingham NG2 1EE[5]. It handles arrangements for children when parents separate, divorce hearings, financial remedy, domestic abuse and adoption[5].

Applying online is HMCTS's advice, to avoid delay[10]; the online service begins by asking for the children's postcode[11]. A paper C100 goes to the family court for the area where the child lives, with at least 3 copies[10][12]. The form needs a mediator's confirmation of your MIAM or a claimed exemption[13]. 03/ Local help

Nottingham's family hubs and parental conflict support

In the city, Nottingham's Early Help Teams work from the Family Hubs at Bestwood, Broxtowe, Hyson Green and the Meadows, and can help with parenting, conflict between parents and understanding healthy relationships and domestic abuse; their Family Advice Clinics run in a hub or by phone[14].

Outside the city, Nottinghamshire County Council says its family hub staff help families, including separated parents, reduce conflict and communicate better, and it has a Reducing Parental Conflict team[14]. This is family support, not mediation: it does not replace a MIAM before a court application[13].

04/ If they will not come

If the other parent will not attend

The other parent is expected to attend a MIAM too, with you or separately, usually with the same mediator[15]. Give the mediator their contact details so they can be invited, and go to your own MIAM even if they refuse[15].

If you attend and they do not, you can still apply to court[8]. The mediator records on the form why mediation is not going ahead, and one option is that the other party did not attend a MIAM[16]. See when mediation is not suitable.

05/ By video

Legal aid and the voucher scheme

Legal aid makes the MIAM free if either of you qualifies, and if only one of you is eligible it covers the MIAM and first mediation session for both[4]. It depends on your income and savings[18]; the government's search finds legal aid advisers and family mediators by postcode[19].

For children disputes, the voucher scheme pays up to £500 towards sessions with an FMC-authorised mediator[6][20]. It does not pay for the MIAM[21]. See the mediation voucher scheme.

If you cannot attend in any form

An exemption covers applicants who cannot attend online or by video and have no authorised mediator with an office within 15 miles of home; you give your reasons on the form[22]. The court decides whether the exemption stands and can direct you to a MIAM[23]. See MIAM exemptions.
