These terms apply when you use miam.quest. Please read the "What Miam is not" section in particular: Miam helps you prepare, and it cannot run a MIAM, sign any form or give legal advice.

About the service

Miam Certificate Quest (miam.quest) is a free "AI for Good" project run by the team behind Fractional Quest. It offers plain-English guides and Miam, an AI assistant, to help separating parents in England and Wales prepare for a mediation information and assessment meeting (MIAM).

We do not charge for anything on the site. By using it you agree to these terms; if you do not agree, please do not use it.

Where it applies

The MIAM rules, the forms and the court process described on this site are those of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different family law and no MIAM requirement; pages about them say so and use their own sources.

03/ Terms of use

What Miam is not

  • Miam is not a mediator and not a mediation service. Only an authorised family mediator can conduct a MIAM and sign the confirmation the court needs (often called a MIAM certificate).
  • Miam does not decide whether a MIAM exemption applies. The court decides.
  • Miam does not give legal advice. For advice about your situation, speak to a family solicitor or an authorised family mediator.
  • Miam cannot draft or file court documents for you or act for you in any way.

Beta, accuracy and calculators

The site is in beta. We check our guides against official sources and list them on each page, but the law, fees and forms change, and an AI assistant can make mistakes. Beta service. Always check with official government websites.

Calculators, including the child maintenance calculator, give estimates only. The Child Maintenance Service, the court or the relevant official body works out the real figure.

If you or a child are in immediate danger, contact the emergency services now; the support lines are at the end of this page. Miam can point you to support lines and explain the MIAM exemption for domestic abuse, but it is not an emergency or support service. See domestic abuse support.

Using the site fairly

When you use the site, please:

  • Use it to prepare for mediation or to understand the process, not for anything unlawful
  • Not try to disrupt, overload or get around the site's security or limits
  • Share only what you need, and respect the privacy of the other parent and your children

The guides and design on this site are ours; please do not copy them wholesale without asking. Facts we cite come from the official sources named on each page, which belong to their publishers.

We link to other sites, such as GOV.UK, the courts, the Family Mediation Council and Cafcass. We are not responsible for their content, and a link is not an endorsement.

We provide the site free and as it is. We are not responsible for decisions you make based on it, or for loss caused by errors in our guides, calculators or Miam's replies, except where the law does not allow us to limit our responsibility (for example for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud).
